So, shouldn't we give you special attention in the new year that is just beginning? Discover the decoration trends 2020 and find ideas to give a new life to your home, sweet home.

New Decoration Style Trends For 2020

THE COLOR OF THE YEAR: LIVING CORAL

For 20 years, the members of the Pantone Color Institute have come together to make an analysis of current and future trends and decide on a color as a motto for the following year, which ends up influencing all areas: decoration, fashion, design and beauty. After  Ultra Violet in 2018,  Greenery in 2017 and  Rose Quartz in 2016, this year's Pantone color is Living Coralor, in Portuguese, Coral Vivo, a color that adds lightness and light to the new year. Remembering the vibrant colors of Miami Beach, it allows you to make several combinations within the same palette. It is also possible to use it on walls or on more striking pieces such as a sofa or as a contrast to darker tones, such as navy blue, black and gray. Another option is to invest in small objects or a key piece for the living room, to give the final touch to a decoration.

THE RETURN OF THE VELVET

This return from the past was not a fad. Elegant and sophisticated, velvet is a useful material in modern decorations, with bolder and contemporary designs. The velvet upholstery of intense colors and character, such as cobalt blue, bottle green or burgundy, do not go unnoticed and come to give a new life to sofas, poufs and chairs.

… AND THE MARBLE

This appeal to the natural also brought back natural stones, such as marble, which can now be used not only in kitchen countertops, bathrooms, or floors, but mainly in pieces of furniture, such as a coffee table, and accessories, like vases.

CIRCULAR AND ORGANIC FORMS

One of the biggest trends launched by the last Milan Design Week is curved and organic shapes. From winding sofas to irregularly shaped vases, round rugs or fluid-shaped lamps, without points or edges, anything goes. The idea is to seek greater contact with nature, as opposed to the rationality of urban and more rigid environments, in a trend that gives priority to comfort without compromising style.

NATURAL FIBERS

The handmade look continues to be a trend, in lamps, furniture, tableware, vases or even textiles. The natural fibers and the use of sustainable materials, such as rice paper or ceramics, remain, as well as the simple lines and natural colors, maintaining the Nordic aesthetics on the rise.

SUSTAINABLE FURNITURE

Likewise, handcrafted furniture, handcrafted and made from recycled and eco-friendly materials, is an increasingly popular trend but gains more refined and elegant forms and lines, proving to those who still had doubts that they are the future.

MOSAICS

Some say that the biggest trend in interior design of 2020 is mosaic. Originally used on floors, in this revival we see mosaics to be used on countertops, tables and all types of accessories, such as lamps. There are even patterns that simulate these small tiles on wallpaper and even rugs.

THE GOLD AGE

Copper is gone. Now it is the turn of gold, which can be seen in metal finishes - such as taps, handles or cabinet handles -, but also in details and in conjunction with other materials, such as wood. Likewise, everything indicates that the influence of Art Deco will be highlighted in 2020, inspiring pieces of furniture, accessories and even fabrics. It is no accident that round shapes and materials like velvet or marble are back.

FLOWER POWER

Flowers, especially with large designs, gain a prominent place in wallpapers or textiles, filling any space in your home with life and personality. In turn, tartan or chess, which has returned in force to the world of fashion, has also reached the decoration and can be used in bedding, pillows, table runners or wallpapers. Along with floral motifs is one of the fashion patterns of this year.

DECORATED CEILINGS

Painted floor images are very popular on Pinterest (and a smart way to avoid having to remove old floors or polish wood). But what about ceilings? One of the trends of this 2020, which will not leave anyone indifferent, is precisely to give “the sky that protects us” the deserved prominence, adding color, wallpaper, mirrors or even frames… Does anyone have the courage?

COZY KITCHENS

After the minimalist wave of recent years, the kitchens of 2020 are starting to look like other rooms in your home, which are more welcoming and comfortable. Gone are the days when it was mandatory to line walls with cabinets up to the ceiling. What you are giving are open shelves and cupboards with glass (or made-to-measure pantries), to display flowers, books and other personal items alongside kitchen utensils. An old rug and some pieces of ceramic or a piece of art will always look good too.

BOLD COLORS OR PASTEL TONES?

Both. The pink quartz and the millennial pink have been in all the pages of decoration magazines for the last two years, so to invest in these palettes do not despair and try to touch up everything using blush tones, which, combined with gray, are a trend. Bold colors, rich patterns and textures, no doubt. Green, a sophisticated and provocative color, gives spaces a certain refinement and is a fabulous setting to build environments where natural materials reign and the return to Nature.
